INDIANAPOLIS -- Soft drinks are often blamed, at least partially, for expanding waistlines, but a new soda promises to burn calories and keep guzzlers energized.Diet soda has been extremely popular for many years. Water, unsweetened drinks and coffee are some alternatives people seek.Celsius, a drink now on Indiana store shelves, provides a jolt of caffeine and, according to founder Janice Haley, kills calories. too.
"Celsius raises your metabolism on average 12 percent, and the leading diet cola did not," Haley said. "That kind of increase, over a three- to four-hour period, is about 77 calories burned."Celsius comes in cola, lemon-lime, ginger ale, berry and orange flavors. It fizzes like soda, taste like soda and contains ingredients to speed up metabolism, 6News' Stacia Matthews reported."(Celsius contains) things like green tea with EGCG, ginger, caffeine, guarana, B vitamins -- those type of things," Haley said.
The drink does not have carbohydrates, sugar, preservatives or corn syrup.Celsius is not for everyone. Anyone who is sensitive to caffeine, pregnant or nursing should not drink it.It costs about $2 a battle and is sold in Super Target and Crystal Flash stores in central Indiana.
